How To Live

Homebuying.  One of the scariest things we'll ever do.    Well, I want a house.  We aren't quite ready yet, but getting a headstart probably isn't a bad idea.  One of my secret burning desires is to be an interior designer, and all I can think about right now is a house.  All for me to do what I want with it.  AAAAHHHHHH! I want one so bad!  We won't be looking until the end of the year, but there are some things I'd like to know about the process.

Of course, there are so many options when it comes to a home.  There are some things I definitely want in a house.  In a perfect world, I'd have:

A wrap around porch, a lot like this one:

A very open floor plan like this:

A white kitchen that looks something like this:

And a backyard with enough space for a garden.

High expectations, I know.  Houses cost a lot of money, and you have to make that much money in the first place.  Dang.

So, what should I expect?  What have been your experiences with buying or owning a home?  Is it worth it?  Do you regret your decision, or is it one of the best things you've done?  What do you do for a living in order to pay for it?  {you don't have to tell me how much you make!} and what can I look forward to? Any other tips?

Help please, I need some direction!

  1. first, contact a good realtor. I have one I'll totally give you his name.
second, look into first time home buyers grants. also look and see if there are any military benefits that would help. I know we qualify for a VA loan but you may not.
make a dream poster..you know you want to...
expect it to take longer than you expect!

  3. Expect everything to cost more and take longer than you expect. Make a list of MUST HAVES vs would likes...those can be very important, and be willing to compromise. Some things you can live with until you can afford to change them. Some things you can't. Also, be sure to include in the budget for repairs and restocking. You'll want to have all your doors rekeyed right after you move in, so allow for that. If you like the door knobs, you can have one person stay home while another person takes them to home depot to be rekeyed. That's a lot cheaper than replacing the whole thing. Hope this helps.
